Error description

  • After upgrading to CICS TS 6.1, you issue a CEMT command
from a virtual console terminal, and the following
    message is issued:

DFHME0138 MESSAGE DFHTM1715 NOT ISSUED BY DFHMEME BECAUSE MVS
              WTO IS SHORT ON STORAGE

Other MVS modify commands work fine with no issues. It only
fails when issuing the MVS modify command to a CICS region.
Reviewing a dump on the DFHME0138 message, trace shows the
following exceptions when attempting to put out the
    DFHTM1715 message:

    ME FF0F SUWT *EXC* RECOVERY-ENTERED SEND_DIRECT,DFHTM1715
    ME FF01 SUWT EXIT SEND_DIRECT/DISASTER MVS_SHORT_ON_STORAGE

The Write To Operator or WTO failed with an ABENDD23.
The unique reason code was 0007, which means-
The caller requested mutually exclusive functions- in this
case both CONSID and CONSNAME were specified.
The region was not short on MVS storage, as stated in the
    DFHME0138 message.

    Additional symptoms: KIXREVDAM Upgrade2CICS61
ABEND D23 console message WTOR SOLICITED

Local fix

  • Change autoinstall terminal definition to use SOlicited=No
    instead of yes.

    ****************************************************************
A user issues an MVS modify command to a CICS region to run a
    a transaction, for example:
       /F jobname,CEMT S,AUX,START
the CICS CONSOLE definition specifies SOLICITED=YES.
The CICS transaction abends with abend code D23
because CICS module DFHSUWT requests a WTO call with both
Console ID and Console Name. These options are mutually
    exclusive.

Problem conclusion

  • CICS has been changed to ensure that WTO is not issued with
both Console Name and Console ID.
