Error description

  • IHS 8.5.5 on z/OS calculates the expiration of a keepalive
connection relative to the start of the request, instead of from
the end of the response.


When a response is delayed by X seconds, the keepalive
connection will be closed X seconds prematurely.

Note: Does not affect IHS on distributed platforms and does not
affect 9.0 on z/OS>

* PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The "KeepAliveTimeout" is inadvertently *
*                      counted from the beginning of the       *
*                      request, not the end of the response.   *

* RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
****************************************************************
When a response is delayed by X seconds, the keepalive
connection will be closed X seconds prematurely. This can lead
to
a keepalive race with clients who expect the connection to be
held open for the advertised amount of time and do not reuse
connections carefully.

    



Problem conclusion


    

  • The code was updated to not used a cached "current time".

Note: This bug does not affect IHS 9.0 or IHS on other
operating systems.

The fix for this APAR is targeted for inclusion in IBM HTTP
Server fix packs 8.5.5.23.  For more information, see
