PH45301: GENERATING UNLOAD ON A TABLE VIA U.UL COMMAND RESULTS IN SECONDARY EXTENT SPACE PARAMETER THAT IS TOO LARGE

APAR status

Error description

• Admin tool is used to generate utility JCL for a table with a
  very large value for the  CARD column.  When executing Admin
  command U.UL for this table, Admin generates an UNLOAD job with
  a very large secondary quantity, for example:
  
  SPACE=(TRK,(65535,119042938),RLSE
  
  This large secondary quantity value results in a JCL error.
  
  In addition, UNIT=TAPE is specified in conjunction with the
  SPACE value, which should not be.

  * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: An UNLOAD utility job that was          *
  *                      generated by using the U.UL             *
  *                      line command results in a JCL           *
  *                      error.                                  *
  ****************************************************************
  On panel ADB21T, issuing the U.UL line command on a table with a
  very large number of rows generates incorrect JCL for the UNLOAD
  utility. Submitting this JCL results in the following error:
  'EXCESSIVE PARAMETER LENGTH IN THE SPACE FIELD'
  
  Also, the DD statement for the unload data set might include an
  unnecessary SPACE parameter. If the UNIT parameter specifies a
  tape device due to a very large number of rows, the SPACE
  parameter is not needed.
  

Problem conclusion

• The problems have been resolved.  When a tape device
  is used for UNLOAD, the SPACE parameter will not be
  used in the DD statement for the unload data set.
