Error description

  • DFHFC5813 issued at CICS startup indicating DFHSM or DFDSS is
backlevel and does not support BWO processing. DFHFCRP
determines there is a CVTHSM ( QCT Control Block ) and to fill
in FCSTATIC FC_HSM_RELEASE using the QCT at x'30' ( field
MQCTVRM ). This is zero since a vendor DFHSM is running
the LPAR. This causes CICS to move 00000000 into FCSTATIC
FC_HSM_RELEASE at offset x'48'. This causes the issue later
on. But, there is also another issue here. The QCT+30 says:

Version, release, and modification level of DFSMShsm levels
1.5.0 and earlier. If this field equals X'40F1F5F9', field
MQCT_VRM contains the correct version, release, and modification
    levels.

A local to support system shows 40F1F5F9. DFHFCRP should be
checking MQCT_VRM which is at offset x'6C' in the QCT.

DFHFCRP then checks for backlevel HSM and moves in FC_HSM_REL
which was set to 00000000 above and determines HSM is backlevel
and sets FC_HSM_BACKLEVEL in FCSTATIC at x'770'.

Then DFHFCAT is called and at tests to see if FC_HSM_BACKLEVEL
or FC_DSS_BACKLEVEL is on and if so ( if the message hasn't
already been out ) issues the DFHFC5813 message.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All CICS users. *

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: DFHFC5813 issued in error. *
    ****************************************************************
The customer had a vendor version of DFHSM on their systems,
that was capable of supporting fuzzy backup. However, CICS still
issued the warning message DFHFC5813 when the file was opened,
as DFHFCRP referenced a redundant MQCT field to test for this.
In fact, msgdfhfc5813 is no longer required as it was
introduced in 1991 when it was possible for an old level of
DFHSM or DFDSS to be in use, that precluded dynamic backup
support. That is no longer the case, as supported versions and
    vendor equivalents support it now.

Problem conclusion

  • DFHFCAT has been changed to no longer issue the DFHFC5813
message or FCAT_TRACE_HSMDSS_BACK_LVL 0B70 exception trace
entry. The flags used to detect fuzzy backup support have been
retained within FC static storage, for serviceability purposes.
