Error description

  • COBOL compiler fails to diagnose 2 WHEN phrases in a SEARCH ALL
statement and goes into a loop

Local fix

  • Do not code 2 WHEN phrases

Problem summary

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The compiler will get into *

    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the provided PTF. *
    ****************************************************************
The compiler got confused parsing the nested
SEARCH ALL and failed to diagnose the error and tried to
generate code for an impossible case. (Only 1 WHEN is allowed
    in SEARCH ALL statements).

Problem conclusion

  • The compiler was changed to correctly diagnose the
second WHEN and prevent the back end from trying to generate
    code for a defective program.
