PH34972: INVALID PROPERTIES IN THE RA.XML CAUSES WEBSPHERE V8.5.5.X RESOURCE ADAPTER UPDATE TO FAIL

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• In order to fix an issue with the existing ODM(Operational
  Decision Manager)jrules resource adapter
  in WebSphere Application Server v8.5.5.x,the resource adapter
  was updated from WebSphere AdminConsole.
  The RAR install was successful as it did not thrown any error,
  not in the adminconsole or in the
  SystemOut.logs but upon testing, the update did not take effect
  as the original issue was not resolved.
  In order to resolve it,the RAR had to be deleted and a new RAR
  was recreated using the same file.
  

Local fix

• Delete the existing RAR and recreate a new RAR

  If a resource adapters ra.xml file contains invalid
  properties, when trying to update them in the admin console
  with fixed resource adapter ra.xml file, the properties may
  not be visible even after the problem has been fixed by the
  resource adapter provided.
  

Problem conclusion

• A fixed ra.xml can now be updated in the admin console.
  The work around to this problem without this apar is to
  uninstall the resource adapter with the invalid properties,
  then install the fixed resource adapter.
  
  The fix for this APAR is targeted for inclusion in fix pack
  8.5.5.21 and 9.0.5.9. For more information, see 'Recommended
