Error description

  • If ADDI server components are uninstalled using the provided
shortcut to Uninstall IBM Application Discovery and Delivery
Intelligence, but the ADDI installation folder is not then
manually removed, a subsequent installation of ADDI 5.1.0.9
into the same ADDI installation folder location will, by
default, cause the Upgrade wizard to be launched near the end
of the installer executable process instead of the
Configuration wizard mentioned in step 8 on this Knowledge
    Center page:
    https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSRR9Q_5.1.0/ibm_ad_
    user_manual/installing_with_the_addi_installer.html .

Local fix

  • After uninstalling ADDI (especially in situations where you
don't expect to need the existing ADDI configuration
information that may be left after the uninstall), manually
remove (or rename) the existing ADDI installation folder before
attempting to reinstall ADDI 5.1.0.9 into the same installation
    folder location.

Problem summary

  • Uninstalling ADDI 5.1.0.9 but not manually renaming/deleting
the remaining installation folder structure would cause the
Upgrade wizard (instead of the Configuration wizard) to be
launched if another installation was attempted into the same
target path as the previous installation.

Problem conclusion

  • Code was changed to check if <ADDI installation folder>\IBM AD
    Web Services\wlp\usr\servers\ad_server\server.xml exists during
    installation.
If that server.xml exists, the installer will show the Upgrade
wizard. If that server.xml does not exist, the installer will
    show the Configuration wizard.
