Error description
When using the 5.1.0.9 installer during a Manual upgrade by installing over the existing ADDI server instance, the documentation and on-screen messaging are unclear about correct steps to take when running the ADDI 5.1.0.9 installer executable, and about the resulting Upgrade Wizard that appears by default in a tab of the default browser (if left selected when running installer executable). A similar scenario may happen in situations where a previous ADDI installation or installation attempt was performed, and then uninstalled (but the ADDI installation folder and subfolders were not manually removed). In either of the above scenarios the Upgrade Wizard's appearance in a browser (which happens late in the installer executable process) is pre-selected via a checkbox earlier in the installer executable process, but when the Upgrade Wizard appears, it indicates that the user must first upgrade to 5.1.0.7 (even though 5.1.0.9 code has been laid down in the same ADDI installation folder at that point). This causes confusion and interrupts the upgrade process.
Local fix
A workaround is to either: A. Most preferrable - Clear the checkbox for causing the Upgrade Wizard to appear, if one is migrating to ADDI 5.1.0.9 server from an ADDI server level prior to 5.1.0.7, or if re-installing ADDI 5.1.0.9 into an existing ADDI installation folder location. B. Less preferrable - If the Upgrade Wizard appears while doing a manual upgrade to ADDI 5.1.0.9 from an ADDI server code level prior to 5.1.0.7, select the "Get Started!" button at the bottom of the first wizard screen in the browser, but then be sure to select Other for the code level so that the Upgrade Wizard will not run further and will instead direct the user back to the documentation for the Manual upgrade steps(at least one of which will have already been performed at that point).
Problem summary
For the 5.1.0.9 Windows installer, if a previous ADDI Web Service's instance of WAS Liberty (e.g. ad_server instance) still exists in the target installation folder, then the installer gui will present a screen with pre-selected checkbox for showing the Upgrade wizard (which is only applicable in situations where the prior code level is 5.1.0.7 or 5.1.0.8) near the end of the installer process, vs. showing a screen at a similar point in the installation process with a pre-selected checkbox for the Configuration wizard which is used during new installations. For Manual upgrades from pre-5.1.0.7 code levels to 5.1.0.9, neither wizard should be used, and the steps documented in the ADDI Knowledge Center should be followed instead, which include using the Configuration Service Admin interface to enter configuration information.
Problem conclusion
Documentation and installer gui were changed to be more clear about Manual upgrade process to 5.1.0.9, and avoiding Upgrade wizard presentation in scenarios where it is not applicable.
