Error description

  • The WebSphere EJB timer service uses java.util.Calendar to
    calculate the next timeout for timers. We have become aware
    that there is a limitation in java.util.Calendar that results
    in this behavior during the fall Daylight Saving Time
    adjustment, however there is currently no fix for
    this issue.

    There are no known issues for the spring DST adjustment.

    We agree that repeating timers should continue through the
    first occurrence of the Daylight Savings Time adjustment hour.
    WebSphere should be able to work around the JDK behavior in
    Calendar.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: EJB timer not scheduled properly *
    *                      during                                  *
    * daylight savings time adjustment. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    An EJB timer scheduled to run during a daylight savings time
    adjustment period may not run at the expected time.
    For example, an EJB timer scheduled to repeat every hour may
    skip over the first occurrence of 1 AM during the autumn
    daylight savings time adjustment when 1 AM occurs twice.
    Also, an EJB timer scheduled to repeat only at 2 AM may skip 2
    days during the spring daylight savings time adjustment when 2
    AM does not occur on one day.

Problem conclusion

  • The WebSphere EJB timer service has been updated to properly
    account for the daylight savings time adjustment periods when
    scheduling the next timeout of a calendar based timer.

    The fix for this APAR is targeted for inclusion in fix packs
    8.5.5.20, 9.0.5.8, and 21.0.0.4. For more information, see
