  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • The server starts but doesn't get far enough to create a
    httpd.pid. A dump of the looping address space shows a tcb
    doing reads over and over. LE traceback of the thread shows:

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: IBM WebSphere Application Server V8.5 web *
    *                  server plugin servers                       *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The web server hangs on startup when *
    * the plugin configuration file is *
    *                      corrupt.                                *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    The web server hangs when starting and the plugin
    configuration file is corrupt. In this case, the size of
    plugin-cfg.xml was 0.

Problem conclusion

  • The code to read the plugin configuration did not handle an
    empty file propertly. End of file was not identified on the
    first read and code would cycle attempting to read from the
    configuration file.

    The fix for this APAR is targeted for inclusion in fix pack
    8.5.5.19 and 9.0.5.7. For more information, see
