Error description

  • os not recognized at SLES 15 and above, despite the fact that
we document it compatible.
There seems to be a change in SLES
in /etc release which breaks WebSphere/wasservice

* PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: WAS service generation fails on SLES 15 *
*                      and higher after SLES 15 migrated to    *
*                      systemd.                                *

* RECOMMENDATION:                                              *

When SLES 15 migrated to systemd, they removed the file
/etc/SuSE-
release that was used by WAS service to determine the OS version
causing WAS service generation to fail.

    



Problem conclusion


    

  • WAS service generation also now checks for the standard systemd
version file /etc/os-release on Linux systems to determine OS
information.

The fix for this APAR is targeted for inclusion in fix packs
9.0.5.7 and 8.5.5.19. For more information, see 'Recommended
