Error description

  • IBM Developer for z Systems - IDz - v14.2.3
    GDG Limit shows wrong number when it's greater than 9 in
    encoding IBM-930 and IBM-1390.

    Steps to reproduce:
    - Define a GDG base with Limit greater than 9.
    - Connect a Remote Systems connection with the host code page of
    the MVS Files subsystem set to IBM-930 (or IBM-1390).
    - Browse and select the GDG base. In the dataset Properties
    view, its Limit is shown with incorrect number of 0.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: 01.All zExpl and IDz users with zExplorer *
    * host with MVS Subsystem's host encoding *
    *                    IBM-930 and IBM-1390.                     *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: 01.In IDz 14.1, LIMIT values of GDG *
    * that are greater than 9 are shown *
    * with the wrong value of 0 in *
    *                         IBM-930 and IBM-1390 encodings.      *
    ****************************************************************
    01.RSE backend does not return correctly the LIMIT attribute of
       the GDG when reading from z/OS. It is using lowercase hex
       character for the values, which are not supported by IBM-930
       itself and IBM-1390 TSO client. Front end client has the
       default 0 in such case.

Problem conclusion

  • 01.When reading from z/OS, use upper case hex character to
       represent LIMIT attribute of the GDG. Similar limitation has
       not been found for upper case letter with encodings.
