Error description

  • You are investigating a problem and using CICS trace to see
where EXEC CICS calls are made from a COBOL program. In the
trace, the AP E160 trace entries give the COBOL statement
    numbers similar to this:

     COBOLII STMT_#(#####)

    where #####
is the COBOL statement number from the compile. If the external
translator is used, the statement number that shows up in the
translator listing is 5 digits, and the trace is correct. If
the integrated translator is used (not a separate translate
step) for COBOL, the statement numbers that appear in the
compile listing are 6 digits. When the trace entry is made, the
final digit is truncated, and the statement number is
    incorrect.

Local fix

  • use external translator

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All CICS Users. *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: CICS trace truncates 6 digit COBOL *
    *                      statement numbers to 5 digits.          *
    ****************************************************************
A CICS EXEC Interface Level 2 trace is set up and a program
compiled with the COBOL integrated translator is run.

CICS trace formats and writes trace entries, but only caters for
COBOL statement numbers / LineIDs up to a length of 5
characters. The final digit is truncated.

Problem conclusion

  • CICS trace has been changed to cater for COBOL statement
numbers up to a length of 6 characters.
