PH27055: WHEN UPGRADING IDAA V7 MAINTENANCE LEVEL 7.5.0.X TO 7.5.2 THE INSTALLATION LOG OF THE APPLY PROCESS MAY SHOW INCORRECT DATA

Error description

  • When using IBM Db2 Analytics Accelerator Studio to transfer the
    installation package to the accelerator, the time needed for
    both Full and Essential upgrades will be estimated.
    However, the upgrade from maintenance level 7.5.0.x to 7.5.2
    can only be a Full upgrade.
    While the transfer of the installation package will be
    successful, the exclusion of the Essential upgrade may result
    in the following side effect: during the subsequent start of
    the installation using the Apply button the installer may see
    transfer log rather than the current installation log. Under
    these circumstances a monitoring of the installation progress
    may not be possible for up to two hours.
    

Local fix

  • If the Apply process due to its embedded health check were to
    include a reboot of the accelerator, the erroneous display of
    the transfer log would be resolved automatically and the
    installer can monitor the progress of the installation.
    If your upgrade needs to fit into a maintenance window and if
    two hours have passed by without appearance of the installation
    log, please contact IDAA support for control of the progress of
    the installation.
    
    The situation described before is a one-time issue due to a
    chicken-egg situation. The fix needed is part of maintenance
    level 7.5.3 but can only get active with subsequent upgrades
    from this maintenance level to higher ones.
    

Problem summary

  • The issue has been fixed with accelerator maintenance level
    7.5.3.
    Note:
    When upgrading to maintenance level 7.5.3 a manual removal
    of the "apupgrade --essentials" process by IBM support still
    is required to show latest upgrade progress in IBM Db2
    Analytics Accelerator Studio.
    Upgrades to maintenance levels higher than 7.5.3 will no longer
    require this manual step.

  • Upgrade to maintenance level 7.5.3 or higher.
