Error description
The recently added z/WIC support in CICS means it attempts to register on start up and if this fails a message like the following is issued: DFHMN0118I CIM3AA01 CICS WIC registration error - IFAWIC return code X'0000000C' and reason code X'00000C02'. This apar is being used to make the message more descriptive.

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All CICS users. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Misleading message information when * * CICS is started on a pre-z14 hardware * * level, or on an LPAR with SETSMF * * NOWIC specified. * **************************************************************** z/OS APAR OA57165 ships support for WIC, the IBM z/OS Workload Interaction Correlator. This support is provided via PTF at all supported releases of z/OS up through and including HBB77C0 (i.e. z/OS R2.4). SMFPRMxx defaults to NOWIC. CICS APAR PH16392 ships CICS support to exploit WIC services. If CICS is started on pre-z14 hardware, DFHMNSU now issues message: DFHMN0118I CICS WIC registration error - IFAWIC return code X'0000000C' and reason code X'00000C02'. If CICS is started on an LPAR where SETSMF NOWIC is specified (or defaults), then DFHMNSU now issues message: DFHMN0120I CICS WIC registration failed, waiting for ENF signal - IFAWIC return code X'0000000C' and reason code X'00000C04'. These are both fairly common situations at the moment - WIC support is still new, and z14 adoption is still being established. As such, these return/reason codes are being seen by customers and causing confusion for the operators. Additional Keywords: OA57165
Problem conclusion
DFHMNSU has been changed to issue new informational messages DFHMN0121 and DFHMN0122 in these cases, to clearly state what the situation with WIC usage is, and shield the operator from potential confusion from the return and reason codes: DFHMN0121I CICS WIC registration detected a pre-z14 hardware level. DFHMN0122I CICS WIC registration detected that WIC is not enabled. The CICS TS 5.4, 5.5 and 5.6 Messages manual will be updated to include the following two new messages: DFHMN0121 applid CICS WIC registration detected a pre-z14 hardware level. Explanation: This is an informational message to report that CICS cannot exploit the IBM z/OS Workload Interaction Correlator data collection as it is being started on a pre-z14 hardware level. System Action: CICS operation continues. UserResponse: None. Module: DFHMNSU XMEOUT parameters/Message inserts 1. applid Destination: Console DFHMN0122 applid CICS WIC registration detected that WIC is not enabled. Explanation: This is an informational message to report that CICS cannot exploit data collection by the IBM z/OS Workload Interaction Correlator as it is not enabled at the z/OS level (SETSMF NOWIC). System Action: CICS operation continues. UserResponse: None. Module: DFHMNSU XMEOUT parameters/Message inserts 1. applid Destination: Console
