PH26710: DB2 OBJECT COMPARISON TOOL GENERATED JCL DEFERRED STEP RESTART CANNOT USE DD REFERBACKS TO TEMP DATASETS

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Object Compare JCL generated by the panels contains a commented-
  out deferred step restart statement.  Deferred step restart,
  however, will not work with the JCL that is currently generated,
  because this JCL contains DD referbacks to a prior step which
  defines a temp dsn.
  

Local fix

• 1) Don't use deferred step restart;
  
  2) If deferred step restart is desired, then replace temp dsns
  in the generated jcl with non-temp dsn allocations which can be
  deleted at the end of the job.

  When a user generates a compare job and sets
  "Single compare job"
  to YES, the generated JCL includes backward references, also
  known as referback statements, which make deferred step restart
  impossible.
  
  On panel GOC5, a new option has been added:
  
  Allow deferred restart
  
  Specify whether the generated compare job is to
  support deferred step restart.
  
  Yes    - Generated compare JCL will not include
  backward references to previous steps so that
  deferred step restart is possible. This option
  is ignored if Generate online is YES or
  Single compare job is NO.
  
  No     - Generated compare JCL will include
  backward references when allocating temporary data
  sets. Therefore, deferred restart is not possible
  without changing these backward references.
  No is the default.
  

Problem conclusion

• Problem has been resolved.
