Error description

  • Performing a search in a metadata tree in Authoring based on a
data module, containing a large package, is not fluid. Even when
you have typed your whole search term, the UI will take
additional time (~5 seconds) to fully show the search term and
start searching. The same is working as expected when the
package is accessed directly in Authoring.

    Configuration Instructions:

To make the search of the source tree more fluid, we added a new
setting called SourceTreeSearchDelayTime in the file
DefaultSettings.xml to configure the search delaying time.
This time is how long our product waits before starting the
search after the user stops typing characters in the search box.

Note that there will be additional time spent in searching the
source tree and drawing the results. For example if the delay
time is set to 1500 milliseconds then it will take a little bit
longer than 1500 milliseconds to see the results in the metadata
    tree.
The more characters typed the shorter the additional time.

The file DefaultSettings.xml is located under webcontent\bi\pat
folder. Open it for editing and look for
SourceTreeSearchDelayTime. The corresponding entry for it is as
    follows:
    <setting name="SourceTreeSearchDelayTime" defaultValue="300"
    dataType="integer" propType="debug" label="Delay time in
milliseconds for searching the source tree"/>

The default value is set to 300 milliseconds. Change the value
of the defaultValue attribute to your preferred optimal time,
    save and close the file.
Clear the browser cache. The change will take effect when Report
    Studio is restarted.

The optimal time depends on the performance of the computer
used. There is no upper limit for its value. We recommend trying
several delay time values between 1000 and 3000 milliseconds
until a suitable value is found.
