    ****************************************************************
WebSphere Application Server attempts to delete application
files when updating an application. If the files are locked
    the file deletion fails.
There is a possibility that the file is locked due to a Java
    bug described at
    http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6213298
To work around the problem, WebSphere Application Server
requests a Java garbage collection which, if it occurs, will
unlock the file. However, there is no way to force a garbage
collection and no reliable way to determine if a garbage
collection has occurred. For this reason, the application
server will retry multiple times with a slight delay and a
request for garbage collection each time. When multiple files
are locked, the delay can be considerable.

Problem conclusion

  • The code has been modified to avoid retrying to delete files
after the first unsuccessful file deletion.
It will still make multiple attempts to delete the first
locked file, but will only attempt to delete the remaining
    files one time.

The fix for this APAR is targeted for inclusion in fix pack
8.5.5.18 and 9.0.5.4. For more information, see 'Recommended
