APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • During an upgrade from one fix pack to another with IHS, the
    postinst process runs.  During this process, it reads data from
    conf/postinst.properties.  The PORT number output is part of
    diagnostic printing of the values that will be substituted into
    shipped files that have @@PORT placeholders. This is used when
    install_ihs is run, but not during the post install process.
    So even though the wrong PORT number being reported, this is
    not causing an actual issue for the post install.
    
    output will look something like:
    
     version.signature file does not match, updates are being
    applied
     removing symbolic link /IHS/ihs_server/./share - it does not
    exist in the new tree
     removing symbolic link /IHS/ihs_server/lib/lua - it does not
    exist in the new tree
     SERVERROOT=/IHS/ihs_server
     PORT=80
     SetupadmUser=IHSSERV
     SetupadmGroup=IHSSERVG
     SERVERNAME=server.hostname.com
     SHLIBPATH_ENVAR=LIBPATH
     PERL=/usr/bin/perl
     postinst complete
     Upgrading from 9.0.5.0 to 9.0.5.3 complete
    
    But /IHS/ihs_server/conf/postinst.properties shows:
    PORT=8080
    

Local fix

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED:  All users of IBM HTTP Server on z/OS        *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: During the first start after a fixpack  *
    *                      update, servers with a non-default      *
    *                      port will print a message saying        *
    *                      PORT=80.                                *

    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *

    If the original install_ihs specified a custom port (other
    than 80), subsequent updates after fixpack apply will
    refernece port 80. But this will not affect the contents
    of httpd.conf
    

Problem conclusion

  • The "postinst" postinstall script was updated to retrieve the
    initial port properly from conf/postinst.properties.
    
    The fix for this APAR is targeted for inclusion in IBM HTTP
    Server fix packs 8.5.5.18 and 9.0.5.5. For more information,
