Error description
With LE abend handler CEEHDLR enabled, called program encounters an exception. Processing resumes, as expected. However, when the main program issues a CANCEL for the called program with the exception, message IGZ0032S is issued
Local fix
Use COBOL V4.2
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: Users of Enterprise COBOL V5 and later * * releases running programs which use * * CEEHDLR, CEE3SRP, and CEEMRCE services * * to handle LE conditions raised in * * dynamically called programs. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The program terminated with message: * * IGZ0032S A CANCEL was attempted on * * active program. * * * * Before this message was issued, the * * COBOL program set a condition * * handler and a resume point using LE * * services CEEHDLR, CEE3SRP, and * * CEEMRCE. Later when an attempt was * * made to CANCEL a dynamically called * * subprogram, after a condition was * * raised and handled, the program * * terminated with message IGZ0032S. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: Install the provided PTF. * **************************************************************** When a COBOL subprogram is called using dynamic call, and is active in the call chain on the stack, the COBOL Runtime Dynamic Call Handler keeps track of the active status of this subprogram. Later when a condition occurs in the call chain (while this subprogram is still active), and the condition is handled by CEEHDLR, and then control is resumed (using CEE3SRP and CEEMRCE services) to a point before the dynamic call, the Runtime Dynamic Call Handler would lose track of the status of this subprogram, and consider it still active (not yet return). When an attempt is made to CANCEL this subprogram, IGZ0032S is emitted. COB0501T/K COB0502T/K COB0601T/K COB0602T/K COB0603T/K
Problem conclusion
COBOL Runtime has been enhanced to handle transfer of control around dynamic calls due to LE conditions.
