Error description

  • GDPSCHG MIGRATE GMMODE(NONMT2MT) sometimes does not recognize
that PPRCMT is enabled in DEVSUPxx although it is. User gets
    NCCF message:
GDPSCHG: PPRCMT not enabled in DEVSUPxx.
As a result of this, the command does not remove and rejoin
the volumes into the session as MultiTarget.

    * The GDPSCHG MIGRATE GMMODE(NONMT2MT) command that is used to *
    * migrate from cascaded to multi-target capable GDPS MGM *
    * versions like from GDPS MGM 3.14 with GDPS/PPRC to GDPS MGM *
    * 4.x sometimes does not recognize that PPRCMT is enabled in *
    * DEVSUPxx. This leads to that the command fails and the GM *
    * relationships are left without the GM secondary information *
    * that is needed for running the GM session from the same *
    * source volumes as the Metro mirror session. *

GDPS issues the MVS command MODIFY DEVMAN,REPORT to find out if
PPRCMT is enabled via the DEVSUPxx member in the Kg-system. Some
times the output is not catched by GDPS. This PTF adds more
diagnostics to see why GDPS could not catch the output as well
as a bypass option that the user can set to bypass the check
(after checking himself that PPRCMT really is enabled).

Problem conclusion

  • This PTF adds more diagnostics to see why GDPS could not catch
the output as well as a bypass option that the user can set to
bypass the check for PPRCMT enabled (after checking that PPRCMT
    really is enabled).

To enable the extra diagnostics issue the following command
before retrying the GDPSCHG MIGRATE GMMODE(NONMT2MT):
    VPCEDEB GDPSCHG DEBUG(2)
And provide IBM GDPS support with the Netlog.

    To bypass the check:
Issue the MVS command F DEVMAN,REPORT and ensure that PPRCMT is
listed for "OPTIONS: ". Then issue the command:
    VPCESET VPC_BYPASS_MTCHECK YES
to bypass the check. Then retry the
    GDPSCHG MIGRATE GMMODE(NONMT2MT)
    command.
