APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • The FUNCTION INTEGER-OF-DATE may return incorrect results when
the STGOPT compiler option is used for AMODE(64) programs
(compiled with the LP(64) compiler option).

Local fix

  • Compile with NOSTGOPT.

Problem summary

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: AMODE 64 COBOL programs that use *
    *                      INTEGER-OF-DATE or INTEGER-OF-DAY       *
    * intrinsic functions may encounter *
    * unexpected behaviour or may ABEND. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the provided PTF. *
    ****************************************************************
Invalid memory is inadvertently accessed in the COBOL runtime
due to an error in the compiler generated code when calling
COBOL Runtime routines to compute the INTEGER-OF-DATE and
INTEGER-OF-DAYS intrinsic functions while the LP(64) compiler
    option is in effect.

Problem conclusion

  • The COBOL runtime was fixed to accept the corrected generated
code from the COBOL compiler. In order to obtain this fix,
AMODE 64 COBOL programs must be compiled with the COBOL Compiler
having APAR PH24829 installed. For AMODE 64 COBOL programs
compiled without APAR PH24829, the behaviour would be the same
as before (that is, would contain the error described in
    Problem Description).
