Error description

  • JVMSERVER enabled during shutdown of CICS region causing CICS
    region to hang during shutdown.

CICS joblog shows the following message during shutdown of CICS
    region:

DFHTM1786I CICS shutdown cannot complete because some JVMSERVERs
    have not been disabled.

Prior to DFHTM1786I, CICS joblog shows:

    DFHSJ0917I JVMSERVER xxxx is disabled.
    DFHSJ0917I
    JVMSERVER yyyy is disabled.
    DFHSJ0917I JVMSERVER zzzz is
    disabled.
DFHSJ0001 CICSHJVA An abend (code ---/...|) has
occurred at offset X'11D6' in module DFHSJIN.
    CEMT JVMSERVER
mmmm is being disabled and restarted by CICS because it is in
    an inconsistent state.
An error occurred while terminating the
JVM belonging to the JVMSERVER resource mmmm. Reason code:
    TERMINATION_TIMED_OUT
    DFHSJ0917I JVMSERVER mmmm is
    disabled.
DFHSJ0005 AN UNEXPECTED ABEND HAS OCCURRED ON THE
INITIAL PTHREAD TCB FOR JVMSERVER: mmmm
    DFHSJ0915 JVMSERVER
mmmm is now enabled and is ready for use.
    DFHTM1782I All
non-system tasks have been successfully terminated.
    DFHTM1786I
CICS shutdown cannot complete because some JVMSERVERs have not
    been disabled.
    .
The concern is CICS does not recognize the CICS region is
shutting down and leaves the JVM enabled causing shutdown to
hang until manual intervention was required to disable the JVM
    that CICS enabled during shutdown.

Problem summary

    * USERS AFFECTED: All CICS Users. *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: CICS normal shutdown hangs as JVM *
    * server is being disabled and restarted *
    * by CICS during shutdown. *
    ****************************************************************
CICS is in normal shutdown, it tries to disable all the JVM
servers. A T8 TCB is abended when CICS refreshes the JVM
statistics and detects an error in the JVM. The JVM server is
automatically restarted by CICS because it is in an inconsistent
state. CICS shutdown hangs waiting for the newly restarted
    JVM server to disable.

Problem conclusion

  • CICS has been changed to do not automatically restart a JVM
server that fails after shutdown has started.
