Error description
EXCI CALL interface is used to call a Java EE application running in an integrated mode Liberty JVM Server in CICS 5.5 from within a traditional batch JOB implemented in COBOL 6.2. Version 3 of the DPL_Request command is used to communicate with the Java service via Channel and Containers. The KC states for the Channel parameter "If the channel does not exist, it is created.". If you want to use the Channel only for output from the serving JEE application, you should be able to use any PIC X(16) field holding a valid channelname as the Channel parameter, which will cause the creation of a new empty Channel of that name. But when you do so, the COBOL client JOB abends with Response Code = 16 and Reason Code = 633 (INQUIRE_CHANNEL_FAILED). EXCI trace, returns the following exception trace: XCI EXCI EX 0633 XCPRH EXC PGCH_INQUIRE_CHANNEL_CALL_FAILED.
Local fix
You could for the time being code a PUT CONTAINER before the first call and this would ensure the CHANNEL is there to be used on the LINK call.
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All CICS Users. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Severe error x'0279' when an EXCI * * client program does EXEC CICS LINK * * CHANNEL * **************************************************************** EXCI Client program performs an EXEC CICS LINK CHANNEL with a CHANNEL that has not been created. This causes the LINK to fail with a severe error. The same issue can occur using the call interface. Additional Keywords: 0279 x0279 DFHEX0002 EX0002 msgDFHEX0002
Problem conclusion
EXCI has been updated to create an empty CHANNEL if the CHANNEL does not exist. A new trace point has been added if an invalid channel is passed in. The new trace point id is 0808x.
