Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All users of Enterprise COBOL V6.3 who *
    * compile programs that include "CALL ... *
    *                 USING ... FILE-NAME" statements.             *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The V6.3 compiler, as released, no *
    *                      longer allows a FILE-NAME in a "CALL    *
    *                      ... USING ..." statement and issues an  *
    * error message when found. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the provided PTF. *
    ****************************************************************
    Due to some conflicts with the 64-bit support added to the V6.3
    release of the compiler, the "CALL ... USING ... FILE-NAME"
    function was blocked and an error message is issued when
    encountered in the source.

Problem conclusion

  • The compiler was updated to restore the "CALL ... USING ...
    FILE_NAME" function, but only for programs compiled with the
    LP(32) compiler option in effect for the compile. If LP(64)
    compiler option is specified, then the feature is still not
    allowed. This should satisfy customers currently using this
    function who migrate to the V6.3 release.
