Error description

  • CICS TS 5.4
    We saw MQGET TIMEOUT failures in the consumer (this case our IIB
    based Enterprise server platform) correlate exactly with
    recycles of the MQ DPL Bridge regions.
    During CICS shutdown we get messages :
    DFHMQ0704 E  12:05:35 CICSRGN CKBR 00080 EIBRESP=16 EIBRESP2=17
                          returned for EXEC CICS call. EIBFN=1008.
    DFHMQ0760 I  12:05:35 CICSRGN CKBR 00080 MsgId=414D51204E314....
    DFHMQ0762 I  12:05:35 CICSRGN CKBR 00080 Queue name=ABC.CICS.EFG
    After these messages, we see MQGET timeouts back in the
    requester.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: DFHMQ0704E with EIBRESP=16,             *
    *                      EIBRESP2=17 and EIBFN=1008 when         *
    * starting CKBP transaction during CICS *
    *                      shutdown.                               *
    ****************************************************************
    During a shutdown of a CICS region it is possible to receive
    message DFHMQ0704E when starting CKBP. If DFHMQBR0 issues the
    start for CKBP as CICS is shutting down then it will issue
    message DFHMQ0704E but also it will remove the message without
    processing it. Any other systems that could be attempting to
    read this message of the queue will get an MQGET Timeout.

Problem conclusion

  • DFHMQBR0 has been changed to detect that CICS is shutting down
    when attempting to start CKBP. In this case, issue a new
    message DFHMQ0708I and do not remove the message from the
    Bridge Queue.

    The CICS messages have been updated with a new message DFHMQ0708

    DFHMQ0708 I date time applid tranid trannum CICS-MQ Bridge
    failed to start CKBP because CICS is shutting down.

    Explanation
    The CICS-MQ bridge could not start CKBP because the CICS region
    was being shutdown.

    System action
    CICS shutdown continues.

    User response
    None.
