Error description

  • When initializing CICS TS 5.5, the new PLT handling does a
allocate of SYS1.PARMLIB which it never unallocates after
    startup is completed.

PLT processing now reads from SYS1. PARMLIB and after the
region is up, the allocation to SYS1.PARMLIB continues
through the life of the region.

This prevents other processes from potentially running that
need exclusive control unless the CICS regions are shut down.

Local fix

  • Within 53796,082,000 ( TS002530840 ) Hursley said they will
add IEFPRMLB REQUEST=FREE macro calls for each allocate that
    DFHAPTB does.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All CICS users. *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Parmlib containing PLT source is not *
    * freed until the CICS job completes. *
    ****************************************************************
PLTs now have to be supplied as source in DFHTABLE data set or a
system parmlib. The parmlib remains allocated to the CICS job
until it ends, which prevents other processes that need
exclusive control of the parmlib from running.

Problem conclusion

  • DFHAPTB has been changed so that system parmlib is freed after
READ processing has finished thus de-allocating it from the CICS
    job.
