Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: Users of Enterprise COBOL V5 and later *
    * releases who are using UNSTRING statement. *
    *                                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The COBOL runtime UNSTRING routine *
    * does one extra delimiter check beyond *
    * the end of the sending field, causing *
    *                      incorrect UNSTRING result.              *
    *                                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the provided PTF. *
    *                                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    During UNSTRING processing, the COBOL runtime fails to check for
    the remaining length of the sending field, and uses dirty byte
    values following the end of the field to do one extra delimiter
    comparison before stopping. This could lead to erroneous
    UNSTRING result.

Problem conclusion

  • The COBOL Runtime is corrected to stop properly at the end of
    the sending field when the remaining field length is too short
    to do delimiter comparison.
