APAR status

  • Closed as new function.

Error description

  • Db2 is now updating v12.1 with new function levels (FL) via
PTFs. A new FL can have the same impact as a new DB2
release/version. For example, it could introduce any of the
    following:
New DDL attributes for object (like PCTFREE FOR UPDATE or new
    data types)
New fields for existing tables in the DB2 catalog
New values for existing fields in the DB2 catalog
    New objects
New tables in the DB2 catalog
New or changed DB2 commands and utilities
Admin Tool and Object Comparison Tool functions will address
    new FLs as follows:
If a function does not tolerate a current FL we will not allow
a user to use that function.
If a function does not support a current FL, but tolerates it,
we will warn/prompt the user and allow the user to accept the
risk to continue via an override.
Note: With this APAR applied, Admin Tool/Object Compare
    tolerates FL503.

    ****************************************************************
This APAR provides enhancements to support Db2 v12 continuous
delivery. Changes are in the following areas:

    1. BIND/REBIND packages:
Panels ADB21KB 'Bind Package', ADB21KR 'Rebind Package' and
ADB21KRT 'Rebind Trigger Package' will allow specifying
V12R1M503 and V12R1M504 as valid options for the
        APPLCOMPAT field.

    2. EXPLAIN:
'Create' (CT) and 'Upgrade' (UT) options on panel
ADB2E 'Explain' for explain table DSN_STATEMNT_TABLE
        add the following new columns:
        APCOMPARE_STATUS, APREUSE_STATUS,
        APREUSE_VERSION, APREUSE_COPYID,
        EXPLAIN_TYPE, PER_STMT_ID, QUERY_HASH
        and FUNCTION_LVL

    3. TCz:
Customization will allow specifying V12R1M503 and
V12R1M504 as valid options for the APPLCOMPAT
        field.

    4. z/OS MF workflows:
While creating workflows for GEN and CM batch,
fields are available to enter values for "Accepted
Function Level" and "Target Db2 Function Level".
        Corresponding parameters and user-entered values
will be generated in the batch jobs.

    5: Tolerated function levels:
Admin now tolerates FL 503. If the current function
level is 503, the "unpredictable errors may occur"
message will no longer be displayed.

    6. CM batch support of FLs:
Two new CM batch parameters are added:
TGT_DB2FL - Target function level. This value is
passed to the DDL reader and GEN
to indicate the desired FL of the
                    target.
If TGT_DB2FL is 100 and the target is on Db2
12, the DDL will be generated for Db2 12 BNFA
(before new function is activated). No Db2 12
                new-function constructs will be generated.
         ACCEPT_FL - Maximum Db2 function level
accepted. Even if the current FL isn
                     supported or tolerated, the function
                     level specified in ACCEPT_FL is
                     accepted.
NOTE: For Db2 FL 502 and greater, existing CM
batch jobs need to be modified to include the
              ACCEPT_FL parameter. Set that parameter
              to the current Db2 FL.

    7. GEN:
        The GEN option ACCEPT_RISK_FOR_FL (introduced
in APAR PI96058) has been renamed to ACCEPT_FL
to be consistent with other functions.
If TGTFL=100 is specified and GEN is running on
Db2 12, the DDL will be generated for Db2 12 BNFA.
No Db2 12 new function constructs will be generated.

    8. CM import:
Two new parameters can be specified:
db2afl - function level to be used instead of the
                    current FL.
           accept_fl - maximum Db2 accepted function level.
If a CM Import job is generated by using the panels:
db2afl - will be populated by "Db2 function level"
                    on panel ADB2PCO.
accept_fl - will be populated by the maximum Db2
function level accepted for the Db2
Admin session, which can also be
                       changed in the "Maximum accepted
function level" field on panel ADB2P2
                       (Db2 Admin option p.2)
