Error description
ERROR DESCRIPTION: USERS AFFECTED: Users of Enterprise COBOL Vx.x compiling programs that compare several pairs of data items in one IF statement where the two sets of data items are sequential and contiguous but at least one of the pairs of data items has differing sizes. PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The compare may be incorrectly evaluated WORKAROUND/CIRCUMVENTION: Compile at OPT(0) RECOMMENDATION TO CUSTOMER: Apply the provided PTF PROBLEM SUMMARY: The optimizer may sometimes group sequential compares of data items into one larger compare. If one or more pairs have differing sizes (taking up a different amount of bytes), at least one additional byte will incorrectly be compared by the shorter sequence. As this byte is from a different data item, not intended to be compared at all, the result of the compare will be incorrect. CONCLUSION: The optimizer was fixed to only group sequential compares into one compare if each pair of data items has the same size.
