PH03038: ADD ADDITIONAL XREF INFORMATION INTO THE DWARF DATA WHEN NOTEST(DWARF) IS USED

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• With NOTEST(DWARF,SOURCE) in V6, some xref info that is needed
  is not present in the DWARF data.  Specifically:
  
  1) DW_AT_IBM_xref_coord in DW_TAG_variable DIE.
  2) .debug_xref section.
  
  FA is deprecated by excluding data fields in the event detail
  and COBOL Explorer is no longer functional.
  
  This problem does not exist with TEST(DWARF,SOURCE) in V6.
  

Local fix

• Compile with TEST(DWARF).
  

Problem summary

  When the NOTEST(DWARF) option was added to COBOL V6.2, the
  compiler did not add ALL of the debugging data to the DWARF
  output.
  

Problem conclusion

• The compiler was changed to put XREF information out in the
  DWARF debugging data with NOTEST(DWARF). In addition, some
  improved compile time optimization was incidentally made for
  customers who compile with TEST(NODWARF).
