Error description
The Full-Function DB Sensor erroneously issues BBE1451E message for an index database and cannot store sensor data element DBX_NUM_IPS when some of the VSAM statistics information retrieved from the z/OS catalog has inconsistencies.

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: The Stand-alone and Integrated FF Database * * Sensor users who install the following * * product and packs: * * - IBM IMS Database Reorganization Expert for * * z/OS V4.1 (FMID=H25N410) * * - IBM IMS Database Solution Pack for * * V2.1 (FMID=HAHP210) or V2.2 (FMID=HAHP220) * * - IBM IMS Database Utility Solution for * * V1.1 (FMID=HDFA110) or V2.1 (FMID=HDFA210) * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: While VSAM KSDS is opened, the * * Full-Function DB Sensor (FF DB Sensor) * * operates as follows: * * - When the VSAM KSDS is an index * * database data set, FF DB Sensor * * issues BBE1451E message and RC=08. * * In this case, FF DB Sensor fails to * * store all sensor data. * * - When the VSAM KSDS is an HISAM * * database data set, FF DB Sensor * * stores some incorrect sensor data. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the maintenance for this APAR. * **************************************************************** While VSAM KSDS is opened, VSAM statistics in z/OS catalog are not updated. In this condition, FF DB Sensor cannot get a correct value for the total number of records of the VSAM KSDS. As the result, the following errors can occur: - When the VSAM KSDS is an index database data set, DB Sensor issues the message BBE1451E and ends with a return code 8. DB Sensor does not store any of sensor data elements in the sensor repository, and it prints incorrect values for some of data elements in the Sensor Data Statistics Report, The incorrect sensor data elements in the report are DBX_NUM_IPS, DBX_PCT_IPS_OVFL, DBX_UNUSED_BYTES, and DBX_PCT_UNUSED_BYTES. - When the VSAM KSDS is an HISAM database data set, DB Sensor prints and stores incorrect values for DB_UNUSED_BYTES and DB_PCT_UNUSED_BYTES, although it ends normally with a return code 0. After applying the PTF for this APAR, DB Sensor is fixed as follows when it detects incorrect VSAM statistics: - When DB Sensor runs as stand-alone, runs in Reorganization Expert, or runs in Online Reorganiation Facility, it caluculates the number of records by reading records in the VSAM KSDS. DB Sensor prints and store correct sensor data elements. - When DB Sensor runs in HP Image copy or HP Pointer Checker, it stops collecting some of the sensor data elements related to the incorrect VSAM statistics and marks "N/A" (not applicable) in the Sensor Data Statistics Report. The sensor data elements are DBX_NUM_IPS, DBX_PCT_IPS_OVFL, DBX_UNUSED_BYTES, and DBX_PCT_UNUSED_BYTES. DB Sensor issues the BBE1453W message and returns a return code 4.
