OA64338: EDG8194I USING PROGRAM EDGSPCLS TO RETURN TO SCRATCH LWORM VOLUMES

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Using PGM=EDGSPLCS to return to scratch  'pending release'
  logical WORM ( LWORM ) volumes
  failed with :
  EDG8194I CHANGE USE OF VOLUME lvol REFUSED - VOLUME STATUS MAY
  ONLY BE CHANGED FROM PRIVATE TO SCRATCH BY DFSMSrmm
  
  
  ANALYSIS:
  This situation only occurs for LWORM volumes when running
  PGM=EDGSPCLS.
  Non-LWORM volumes are not impacted
  
  KNOWN IMPACT:
  LWORM did not return to scratch and an out of LWORM scratch
  situation may occur
  

Local fix

• BYPASS/CIRCUMVENTION:
  run EXPROC EDGSPLCS(NO) and VOLUMERANGES covering only the
  range(s) of LWORM volumes allows to return them to scratch.

Problem conclusion

• EDGSPLCS scratch processing is done in a different area than
  standard housekeeping scratch processing. This area needed
  the additional modifications to allow Logical Worm to be
  recoverable from a scratched status.
  
  D/T3957 and D/T3948 as special keywords for PSP bucket to
  account for IBM TS7700.
