Error description

  • In an RMM environment where MCATTR is set to ON or VRSELXDI, the
expiration date can be set invalidly in cases where the
expiration date would be taken from the Management class
settings. When the RETPD value in EDGRMMxx is greater than the
EXPIRE AFTER DATE/DAYS and the EXPIRE AFTER DAYS NON-USAGE
values, as specified in the Management Class, the RETPD value
from EDGRMMxx can get applied in error.

This sets a longer expiration date than was intended by the
Management Class settings. Expiration date set by the Management
Class is intended to be the greater of the values specified in
EXPIRE AFTER DATE/DAYS and the EXPIRE AFTER DAYS NON-USAGE
    fields.

This APAR corrects the problem where the expiration
date is supposed to be taken from the EXPIRE AFTER DAYS
NON-USAGE field but is overridden with RETPD value.

    ADDITIONAL SYMPTOMS:
RETENTION PERIOD VRSEL VITAL RECORD SELECTION EXPIRY DATE
    IGNORE ATTRIBUTE 99000 D99000 99365

Local fix

  • If APAR OA63281(V2R3/V2R4) or OA61415(V2R5) is applied set the
EXPIRE AFTER DATE/DAYS VALUE to be
the same value as EXPIRE AFTER DAYS NON-USAGE.

    Example:

    Expiration Attributes

    Expire after Days Non-usage . : 10
    Expire after Date/Days . . . . : 10

Problem conclusion

  • To accomodate Zero(0) as Expire after date/days from management
    class we have
added additional check which will help in decision making while
    calculating
    expiry date for tapes.
