APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • When SERVER_IPADDR=(0) is specified, zDMF disables its TCP/IP
functions, but still attempts some initialization processing
that can cause unnecessary error messages. This happens in
particular when there is no USS segment defined for the userid.

zDMF checks for a minimum of 10% free ECSA storage, or it
refuses to process. In some cases, where ECSA allocation is
large and heavily utilized, this can be an unnecessary barrier.
A new option MINIMUM-ECSA_FREE=10% will be added to allow users
to modify this threshold to suit their environment.

    *                      messages.                               *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the provided PTF. *
    ****************************************************************
zDMF has a hard-coded threshold of a minimum 10% free ECSA or it
fails to activate a group. This can be a problem when a large
ECSA is allocated, and 10% is actually plenty of storage for
    zDMF to work.

Many users deactivate zDMF TCP/IP funtionality, as it is not
needed. However, the TCP/IP subtask runs anyway, and
periodically calls TCP/IP services. In some cases, this can
lead to continual error messages, and it's unnecessary overhead
    anyway.

Problem conclusion

  • A new configuration parameter is added (MIN_FREE_ECSA%) that
allows the user to override the default of 10%. The allowed
specification can be from 0-80%. There is still one more check
for the absolute required storage for an activation.

When SERVER-IP=(0) is specified, zDMF will no longer attempt
any TCP/IP calls, and will end the TCP/IP communications
    subtask.
