Error description

  • When a LWORM volume gets returned to scratch RMM resets all its
    WORM attributes and data set names, thus for the LWORM volumes
    there is no possibility to recover from a premature scratch.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:                                         *
    * When a logical WORM volume gets returned to scratch, RMM *
    * resets all its WORM attributes such as WWID, WMC WORM flag, *
    * and deletes data set information. Thus, there is no simple *
    * possibility to recover the volume from its premature scratch *
    * since its WORM attributes and data set information are lost. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    * Apply the applicable PTF(s).                                 *
    ****************************************************************
    The program needs to be enhanced to preserve WORM attributes and
    data set name information for the logical WORM volume on its
    returning to scratch.

Problem conclusion

Temporary fix

Comments

  • The program has been enhanced to keep WORM attributes and data
    set name information for the logical WORM volume on its
    returning to scratch, so that in the case where the logical WORM
    volume gets returned to scratch prematurely, it can be recovered
    from scratch by issuing RMM CHANGEVOLUME vvvvvv STATUS(MASTER).
    Additionally, it may be needed to:
    - change the owner,
    - rebuild the volume chain,
    - run IDCAMS DEFINE NONVSAM to add the BCS record back to the
    catalog.
