Error description

  • In HBB7790 (z/OS 2.1), when PFA is shutting down as a result of
a stop command, it can experience an Abend378-14 (RC14) or
Abend378-24 (RC24) when trying to free the Job Table.

This occurs while AIRHMESA, AIRHMEMA, AIRHMEER, or AIRHMEJS are
obtaining a latch, another unit of PFA work (AIRAMETX) can get
control and have the table freemained. After AIRAMETX finishes,
AIRHMESA, AIRHMEMA, AIRHMEER, or AIRHMEJS regains control and
thinks it still needs to freemain the table and does so a second
time which results in Abend378-14 or Abend378-24, trying to free
    storage that is already free.

    ****************************************************************
When PFA was shutting down as a result of a stop command, it
experienced an abend S378 in AIRHMESA. The abend occurred
when it was in Delete_MSG_Space routine freeing up the
storage for the persistent table ( MSG_Jobs_Table ) because
of serialization. A similar abend can occur in AIRHMEER and
AIRHMEMA. Another similar abend can also occur in AIRHMEJS
when trying to free PJU_Job_Table storage.

Problem conclusion

  • Code has been changed to prevent the abend condition.
