OA48675: CATALOG 246-18 ERROR WHEN ATTEMPTING TO OPEN A CATALOG

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• When a catalog is in a restart state, meaning that the catalog
  must be reopened, an incorrect ACB pointer may be used in the
  catalog open code path. This will occur when a catalog request
  is made, which triggers the catalog open code path. The catalog
  request will end with a rc246 rsn18 error which indicates a
  catalog redrive failure. This error may be externalized as a
  more generic 246-0 error, but a SYMREC is written for the rsn18
  error.
  
  This is a 2.2 only issue.

Local fix

• In the reported case, a restart of catalog address space via the
  F CATALOG,RESTART modify command cleared the issue.

Problem conclusion

• The Catalog open code has been corrected to recognize a catalog
  that has previously been opened so that it may reuse the same
  control blocks.
