Error description

  • ABEND with system completion code 614 and error messages
    IEC204I and IEC214I are issued when using the ISPF editor
    and attempting to save changes made to a z/OS UNIX file.
    This situation occurs only occurs after previously attempting
    to edit a z/OS UNIX file and receiving message ISREV013
    'View substituted' because the user does not have the
    permissions to update the file.

Local fix

  • Exit and then return to ISPF.

    * file that they are not permitted to *
    * update, ISPF invokes the View function *
    * and issues the message ISREV013 'View *
    * substituted'. If the user then edits *
    *                      a z/OS UNIX file they are permitted     *
    * to update and tries to save changes *
    *                      a system abend 614 occurs, error        *
    *                      messages IEC204I and IEC214I showing    *
    * return code '10'X are issued and the *
    * changes are not saved. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the provided PTF. *
    ****************************************************************
    ISPF sets internal flag TFDVREAD on when substituting the View
    function for Edit. For a z/OS UNIX file this causes the z/OS
    file to be allocated ORDONLY. THe TFDVREAD flag is not reset
    after the View function terminates. For a subsequent edit of
    a z/OS UNIX file ISPF finds flag TFDVREAD on and allocates the
    file ORDONLY rather than ORDWR. This results in the system
    abend 614 when ISPF issues a CLOSE to save updates to the file.

Problem conclusion

  • Module ISREAL is changed to ensure flag TFDVREAD is set off
    when the Edit function is invoked.
