Error description

  • The customer wises to enable return reciepts on outbound mail,
so enables the mail setting "Enable return receipt on outgoing
email" in an explicit policy and assigns it to a user.
-> the policy is aplied to the user, but the "Return receipt"
checkbox in iNotes does not show as enabled.(but is not grayed
    out either, it is selectable)
-> if you check the calendar profile of the mailfile using
notes peek, it can be seen that the field "RRDefaultDisable" is
set to 1 so the parameter should indeed be enabled for the
    user.
-> issue occurs even if "Set initial value and prevent changes"
is used. but also occurs without this setting.

If you open the same mailfile in the notes cleint, you can see
in the "delivery options" that "return receipt" is enabled.

It was also noted that in the notes client, while the setting
shows as enabled, the setting can be unchecked, which should
not be the case if "Set initial value and prevent changes" is
    selected.

    Steps to reproduce:
    1. Create mail setting:
    (a) under the "Mail" tab -> "Basics" tab-> "Enable return
receipt on outgoing email" enable "Set initial value and
    prevent changes"
    (b) to ensure that it is clear that the policy is pushed out to
the iNotes user, it is useful to make it visable at login, e.g
set the the default landing page in inotes to "mail" instead of
the "homepage": In the "IBM iNotes tab" of the mail setting,
under "basics" tab -> "Display options" section, "When opening
IBM inotes open to" and set this to"mail" instead of the
    default of "homepage".
-> add mail setting to a policy.
    2. Create iNotes user & apply policy to user
    3. tell adminp process mail
    4. log into inotes (not browser specific) and you will see that
it open to the mails inbox, so you know the policy is applied
    5. Select new mail
===> the "Return receipt" checkbox is not enabled as expected.
(sending a test mail found no return receipt was returned, so
it is not a display issue, the setting is just not enabled.
Also it was found manually enabling the setting and sending a
test mail returned a return receipt, so it does work, it is
    just not enabled as expected.)
    6. open the same mail using a notes client, select new mail, go
    to "Delivery options"
===> "return receipt" checkbox is enabled.
(sending a test mail found return reciept was returned)

So the policy is applied to the user but the setting is not
    showing as enabled in iNotes.

Local fix

  • n/a

(manually enabling the "return receipt"setting cannot be
    classed as a workaround.)
