LI81422: UNABLE TO INSTALL A MODULE OR THEME ON THE DEVELOPER PORTAL WHEN THE MODULE IS IN A COMPRESSED .ZIP FILE

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • When trying to install a module or theme on the Developer
Portal it will fail throwing an error like:
"
Cannot open <em
class="placeholder">temporary://<named-portal-theme>.zip</em>
"
This issue is related to Drupal 8.8 bug and only affects builds
running Drupal 8.8  - it does not apply to any existing
releases prior to 2018.4.1.10 which are all based on drupal 8.7.

Local fix

  • Change your file to a tar.gz and it should import successfully

Problem summary

  • An error was seen when uploading a custom module or theme zip
file.

Problem conclusion

  • This was a bug in Drupal core which has now been resolved. It
could be worked around by simply using a .tgz file instead.
