LI79840: VARIOUS COMMANDS REPORT ERROR "NO SPACE LEFT ON DEVICE" FOR /TMPFILE SYSTEM

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• This issue affect the commands:
  --  debug generate postmortem
  --  config save apiconfig
  Issue does affects the autobackup process.

Local fix

• Reboot the appliance running the CLI command "system reboot".
  Until issue fixed, perform a reboot every 2 months.
  

Problem summary

• IBM API Connect Management server may be unable to capture a
  backup due to out-of-disk errors. The server /tmp filesystem
  (tmpfs) may run out of file descriptor on nodes that have been
  running for a long time without a reboot. This was caused by
  VMWare tool creating a new log file under /tmp/vmware-root-NNN
  every time it runs. This results in out-of-space error when
  performing action that require writing to /tmp even though /tmp
  has low space usage.
  

Problem conclusion

• The logic for capturing backups was modified to use a different
  temporary storage area while creating the backup file. Old
  VMWare log files are also cleaned up to prevent /tmp from
  running out of file descriptor. This is fixed in IBM API Connect
  v5.0.7.x and 5.0.8.x with build date from October 2017 and
  later.
