Error description

  • Issue detected with CLOB field which is bigger than e.g. 128KB.

    As per above one have to attune according parameters in Kafka
    and IDR/CDC of rKafka.

    After doing some tuning replication to Kafka of bigger CLOBs
    than e.g. 128KB works.
    Before it was cutted/truncated.

    However, if there is an insert of CLOB data bigger than 128KB,
    one is getting error/warning message in the Kafka CDC log:

    Kafka Target Formatter:0{67}
    com.datamirror.ts.data.operation.lob.ClobData truncate()
    ------------    POTENTIAL ERROR EXCEPTION   --------------
    Materialized String length 211412

    In test done one is receiving this log message per insert,
    which means this is a 1:1 relationship regarding DB insert
    action and log entry.
    It is a concern as if e.g. one would do 1 million inserts, it
    would cause to receive 1 million log entries of that kind.

    * USERS AFFECTED:                                              *
    * This issue may affect you if you are replicating CLOBs *
    * larger than 128KB to IDR 11.4.0.3-5572 or older for Kafka. *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:                                         *
    * Replicating large CLOBs caused a "Potential Error Exception" *
    * to be written to CDC trace file for each row with a large *
    * CLOB. This caused the trace log to grow quickly. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    * Upgrade to IDR 11.4.0.3-5576 or newer. *
    ****************************************************************

Problem conclusion

  • Upgrading to IDR 11.4.0.3-5576 or newer resolves the issue.
