Error description

  • When configured this way, environment variables fail to be
shown in the Admin client, none of stage editors show the
"columns" tab page, connector stage editors simply do not open,
and some random crashes was also observed.

By default, Windows 7 SP1 is not configured this way - rather
it, the default behavior of DEP is enabled only for operating
system components, including the Windows Kernel and drivers.
Administrators can enable DEP on selected executable files by
using the Application Compatibility Toolkit (ACT)

In this default configuration (which is called "OptIn") there
are no issues with DataStage which explains why previous
experiments failed to reproduce any problems by changing the
DEP settings in the Advanced System properties control panel.

The following settings results in a working DataStage product:

    "bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff"
    "bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx OptIn"
    "bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx OptOut"

Local fix

  • To user "OptIn" or "OptOut" as opposed to completely disabling
    DEP using "AlwaysOff"
