JR43276: CDC WILL ALWAYS READ LOG FROM CURRENT INCARNATION OF THE DATABASE

APAR status

• Closed as fixed if next.

Error description

• CDC will restrict all queries to the archived log to see only
  log that belong to the current database incarnation
  Affected areas are:
  normal log reading
  log shipping
  log dependency
  SCN to time queries in bookmark.
  
  The way CDC will restrict this will be backwards compatible with
  9i where v$database_incarnation has a limited amount of columns
  therfore will use this query
  SELECT RESETLOGS_CHANGE# FROM (SELECT RESETLOGS_CHANGE# from
  V$DATABASE_INCARNATION ORDER BY RESETLOGS_TIME DESC) WHERE
  ROWNUM=1
  
  the result from the is used to restrict the log to the latest
  database incarnation
  
  In case of failure to reposition CDC will ask user to refresh
  all the tables after the database was recoverd with RESETLOGS
  open flag

Problem summary

• CDC will attempt to read archived logs that were generated by
  the previous incarnation of the database.
  Create a v$archived_log view in CDC user schema and limit the
  view using the RESETLOGS+CHANGE# from v$database_incarnation
  Users on version 6.5.2 and earlier will have this issue.
