Error description
Cannot reduce default disk size for VMware Template. When you adjust the minimum required disk space for a template (from 40gb to 20gb) it will reset the value back to 40gb even after a re-discovery of the templates.
Local fix
There is a workaround how you can re-set the value for disk size of the image. You need to change that value on the Virtual Server Template (VST) which can be done as follows: . 1) Log on to Tpae UI 2) In the field Object of Data Model Object Finder enter 'minimum' 3) In the result search for an entry 'Minimum VST for < nameOfImage>' 4) Select the VST 5) Expand the Hard Disk Resource Requirement and change the value for 'Host Platform Quantity" to the desired value
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of Tivoli Service Automation Manager 7.2.1.0 to 7.2.1.3 attempting to re-register an image in TSAM Self-Service UI **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: After an image has been registered and unregistered again, the subsequent register operation cannot reduce the disk size below the recommended disk size specified during the first register image operation. E.g. for an image template with 20 GB of disk on the hypervisor, and the first register image specifies a recommended disk of 40 GB. If the image is then unregistered, the subsequent register image panel does not allow to specify a disk size smaller than 40 GB, while it should allow to specify a disk size not smaller than 20 GB. **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: Apply Tivoli Service Automation Manager 7.2.1 Fix Pack 4 when available ****************************************************************
Problem conclusion
The algorithm does not behave correctly in this particular use case. There are 3 VSTs on an unregistered image that was registered before: - The MIN VST. This should be used to *default* the min values - The recommended VST. This should be used to *default* the recommended values. - The actual VST whose ID is passed in VIRTUAL_SERVER_TEMPLATE_ID. This should be used as the *lower limit* for storage values. Two issues exist: - The actual VST is not used to populate the lower limit for minimum storage values. - The actual VST is incorrectly updated with the recommended values. The algorithm in the Web 2.0 UI and the register image backend code was changed to address this issue. The fix for this APAR will be contained in the following maintenance packages: | fix pack | 7.2.1-TIV-TSAM-FP0004
