Description:

SecureRandom.engineGenerateSeed runs slow and takes 17 seconds

System.currentTimeMillis() caches the time, causing an inner
loop to spin until the cache is refreshed while generating
entropy in SecureRandom.java.

JVMs affected: 142, 50, 60

JARs affected: ibmjceprovider.jar, IBMSecureRandom.jar (6.0
alone)

Local fix

  • Level 3 to update

Problem summary

  • SecureRandom.engineGenerateSeed runs slow and takes 17 seconds.

Problem conclusion

  • Affects ibmjceprovider.jar.  Hursley defect 170944.  Likely
available in 1.4.2 SR13-FP8, 5.0 SR12-FP3, and 6.0 SR 9-fp3.
(Also affects JCEFIPS, which customer has not requested, but a
fix will be made FIPS at next opportunity).

SVN build date: 20100927_01 (for 6.0) 20100927_02 (for
6_26)
