Error description
Environment: ITM 6.2.1 FP1 TEPS: reproduced on Windows 2003 and SLES10 (but may occur on other platforms also) TEP Client: reproduced with Java WebStart client and Windows Desktop Client (but may occur on Browser client also) Problem: The TEP client hangs after dragging "Wait until a situation is true" icon, or after dragging the "Evaluate a Situation now" icon into a new Policy. The environment included a Hub TEMS with 7000+ Situations in it. The hang occurs when processing this large list of Situations. TL3CNP confirmed that this issue is addressed by internal defect 107492; however, that was only included in 6.2.2 since it was found during 6.2.2 testing. To get a fix at the 6.2.1 level of maintenance that they're at requires an APAR (per Approver instructions). Approver: KM (SM)
Local fix
Increasing the Java heap size to "-Xms256m -Xmx512m" (instead of the default "-Xms128m -Xms256m") helped in one case, though it still required an hour to present the list of Situations to select from. Another workaround that seemed to work initially was to copy an existing Policy that already had the "Wait Until a Situation is True" or "Evaluate a Situation Now" items in it, then edit that copy. For some reason editing the existing items in that copy of the policy did not hang.
Problem summary
When creating a workflow and using the "Wait until Situation is true" activity, the Workflow Editor feature can use a lot of resources such as CPU and memory on the portal client machine if there are a large number of situations to display in the list.
Problem conclusion
The Workflow Editor now loads the situation list dialog as a background thread. A progress bar was added to the status area of the workflow palette. The fix for this APAR is included in the following maintenance vehicle: | fix pack | 6.2.1-TIV-ITM-FP0003
