IZ63790: Segmentation Fault in WebSphere Commerce 7.0 utilities on Linux/Oracle
APAR status
Closed as program error.
Error description
When running WebSphere Commerce utilities under a Linux/Oracle configuration, a segmentation fault is encountered and displayed in the command console. The affected utilities include those required for staging, massload and access control loads. The problem is caused from within Oracle libraries upon normal return by the utility. Most customers will experience minimal business impact as the segmentation fault occurs after all business processing by the utilities have already completed. Customers who have developed scripts that rely on successful return of utilities will be impacted. Note that customers that have also created their own utilities connecting to their Oracle database may experience this problem as well.

Problem summary
USERS AFFECTED: WebSphere Commerce users on V7.0 under a Linux/Oracle configuration Java SDK APAR PK97404 applied are impacted. PK97404 is documented as a required APAR for WebSphere Commerce 7.0 so this will affect all v7.0 users that make use of the utilities required for staging, massload and access control loads. PROBLEM ABSTRACT: Segmentation fault encountered when running WebSphere Commerce 7.0 utilities on Linux systems with Oracle as DBMS. BUSINESS IMPACT: Most customers will experience minimal business impact as the segmentation fault occurs after all business processing by the utilities have already completed. Customers who have developed scripts that rely on successful return of utilities will be impacted. Note that customers that have also created their own utilities connecting to their Oracle database may experience this problem as well. RECOMMENDATION:
Problem conclusion
Oracle has not responded or acknowledged the problem. Oracle Service Request 7765512.993 opened. Commerce's fix is to add explicit system.exit(0) calls at the end of the Commerce utilities instead of allowing the main mehod to complete or return. This does not impact any of the business processing of the utilities and the Oracle library does not throw any segmentation fault for this path. ------------------------------------------------------------- The latest available maintenance information can be obtained from the Recommended Fixes for WebSphere Commerce technote: http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=3046&uid=swg21261296
