Error description

  • This is itnm 3.8 on SLES 10 on s390x. This is from the
    config for the prereq checker config file /tmp/newPrqchk.cfg

    # We need libstdc++.so.5 on Linux - this could be in any one of
    the following RPMs

    PACKAGE:linux2x86:Minimum:compat-libstdc++-33-|compat-libstdc++-
    5\.|libstdc++-3\.[23]\.

    # For zlinux we need libstdc++.so.6 for most modules. DB2 8.2
    client
    and GSKit need libstdc++.so.5 so need suitable compat-libstdc++
    PACKAGE:linux2s390:Minimum:compat-libstdc++-33-|compat-libstdc++
    -5\.:libstdc++-3\.4\.

     --------------------------------------------------
    the pre-req checking on zLinux should accept either:

    libstdc++-3\.4\. (already present)
    or:
    libstdc++-4\.[0-4]\. (needs to be added)

Local fix

  • For the time you can bypass the
    pre-req check using:

    touch /tmp/.noPrqchk

    before running the installer. However, please note that this
    switches
    off all checks, including disk space, so make sure there is
    enough free disk space before doing the install.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    USERS AFFECTED:
    This problem affects users who try to install the zLinux version
    of ITNM 3.8 on SUSE 10. (Only zLinux is affected. The Linux
    x86 version does not have this problem.)
    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
    The pre-requisite check would fail on SUSE 10 zLinux with the
    message:

    FAILED None of the packages in {libstdc++-3.4.} are installed.

    This was incorrect, as the intention was to check for
    libstdc++.so.6.0, which could also be present in several other
    packages instead.
    ****************************************************************
    RECOMMENDATION:
    This problem cannot be fixed in a fix pack. It requires a new
    baseline installer.

    A product refresh of ITNM 3.8 is due later in the year, which
    will fix this problem.

    If you are trying to use the zLinux installer for ITNM 3.8 that
    dates back to December 2008 then you will have to use the
    temporary workaround detailed below.
    ****************************************************************

Problem conclusion

Temporary fix

  • You can bypass the pre-requisite check using:

    touch /tmp/.noPrqchk

    before running the installer. However, please note that this
    switches off all checks, including disk space, so make sure
    there is enough free disk space before doing the install.
